Suyapa

Therapist

Suyapa is a Sib and bi-lingual Spanish-English therapist based in San Diego. She is passionate about therapy and the healing that can take place. She work with teens and adults who are experiencing trauma related symptoms, stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship difficulties. She works best with people who are curious about learning more about themselves, discovering how one’s past and/or current traumas affect their present and willingness to embark in a healing journey.

Suyapa utilizes a collaboration and a holistic lens, viewing the mind-body-spirit connection as an important piece to understanding who you are as a whole person. She draws from several different lenses of practice, but all of them have a fundamental belief of placing importance on the therapeutic relationship: on connecting with you, creating a safe space for you, and for you to feel truly and deeply seen. Other lenses and elements she integrates often are: Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), Mindfulness practices, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution Focused, and faith based integration.

Suyapa brings empathy and her authentic self to therapy. She works alongside with you in helping identify the root of the issue and explore various ways to manage and heal. She serves not as an expert or someone with all the answers, but as a collaborative guide who values and deeply respects you and the wisdom you already possess. Suyapa's cultural roots influence her therapeutic approach in which she believes it is important to take into consideration how our cultural backgrounds, upbringings, and social injustices affect our daily lives.

Suyapa has a Masters of Social Work degree from University of Nevada, Las Vegas and is a Licensed Clinician Social Worker in the state of California.
