ABOUT CA SIBS
MAE PENNINGTON, DEVELOPMENT
“There are as many ways to live as there are people.”
― Louise Fitzhugh
BA in Communication from Villanova University
Mae currently works in fund development at an affordable housing non-profit in Oakland. Before joining staff, she completed 2 years as an AmeriCorps VISTA in a program development role. Before coming out to the West Coast, she worked at an anti-sexual assault non-profit in New York City.
Mae has three siblings - Cole, Sadie, and Ian, who lives with Down Syndrome. Mae got involved with the Sibling Community after starting the arduous process of obtaining adequate services from the state of New Jersey, where Ian lives with their parents. Ian currently works with a wonderful Life Skills Coach (shout out to all the Direct Support Professionals!), attends music lessons, and participates in a computer game building program! All of Mae's siblings have shaped everything about the way she moves through the world. Cole inspires adventurous living, Sadie inspires independent living, and Ian inspires open-minded living.
As an East Coast transplant, Mae is constantly trying to soak up as much of the Bay Area beauty as she can! She enjoys live music, being outdoors, trying new foods, and discovering new podcasts! She volunteers as a certified crisis counselor at San Francisco Women Against Rape. Also, Mae has been enjoying learning about the historical Disability Rights movement as well as following current Disability Activists' work.
